Bad technique is one thing that will hinder your progress as a guitarist. It’s extremely easy to develop bad technique, but very difficult to correct once you have it.
This lesson encourages good technique, and you should practice these exercises as much as you can.
With good technique, you can learn more material easily, and improve your ability much faster. If you want to become a brilliant guitarist as fast as possible, then the trick is to have good technique.
It’s quite simple, just pay attention to a few easy rules.
These exercises will train you to use three fingers from your fretting hand (index, middle and ring)
RULE – Make sure the index finger plays the 3rd fret, the middle finger players the 4th and the ring finger plays the 5th
RULE – The thumb should be pressed firmly against the neck from underneath
This exercise is similar to the last one except it will now train you to use your index, ring, and pinky.
3rd fret – index finger, 5th fret – ring finger, 6th fret – pinky
RULE – Make sure your ring and pinky are playing the 5th and 6th fret. Don’t cheat by using different fingers
This exercise requires you to now use all four fingers on your fretting hand
3rd fret – index finger, 4th fret – middle finger, 6th fret – pinky
